16
Q

What does the plotter do for AATCC

A

Responsible for maintaining the ships plot and completing the pre-launch brief

17
Q

What is the status board keeper responsible for

A

Provides essential information for following the progress of launch and recover operations

18
Q

What is the final controller responsible for on AATCC

A

Responsible for controlling aircraft in final approach until the pilot reports “ see you “ or “ meatball “ or reaches approach minimums

19
Q

What is the departure controller responsible for in AATCC

A

Responsible for the orderly flow of departing aircraft and to maintain a constant radar surveillance of the operating area of the ship

20
Q

What is the assault controller responsible for in AATCC

A

Responsible for the control of aircraft conducting ship to shore movement of troops, supply’s and air support during an amphibious assault

21
Q

What is the marshal controller responsible for in AATCC

A

Responsible for the initial separation and sequencing of aircraft during case 2 and case 3 recoveries

22
Q

What is the approach controller responsible for in AATCC

A

Responsible for controlling inbound aircraft from Marshall/ TACC until handoff to final controller or PRIFLY. Also establishes the interval for aircraft on final approach

23
Q

What is the AATCC supervisor responsible for

A

Responsible to the AATCC watch officer for the overall operation of AATCC

24
Q

What is the AATCC watch officer responsible for

A

A flight quarters watch station ensuring all aspects of AATCC are being preformed

25
Q

What are the different types of weather case for launch / recovery

A

Case 1

Case 2

Case 3

26
Q

What is case 1

A

Fixed wing
3000’ ceiling / 5 NM visibility

Helicopter
1000’ ceiling / 3 NM visibility

27
Q

What is case 2

A

Fixed wing
Below case 1 but not less then a 1000’ ceiling / 5 NM visibility

Helicopter below case 1 but not less than a 500’ ceiling / 1 NM visibility

28
Q

What is case 3

A

Fixed wing
Below case 2 and 30 min before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset

Helicopter
Below case 2 however with a visible horizon helicopters may work in the tower DLQ pattern

29
Q

How many radars are used for air traffic control

A

3

30
Q

What are the three air traffic control radars

A

AN/SPN-35

AN/SPN-41

AN/SPN-43

31
Q

What information does the AN/SPN-35 provide

A

It is the precision approach landing system (PALS)

Provides azimuth and elevation information so the controller can provide the pilot a talk down landing

32
Q

What does the AN/SPN-41 provide

A

It is the (ICLS) instrument carrier landing system
Also known as the Bulls-eye

The radar measures azimuth and elevation and relays the data to a screen within the aircraft to give the pilot an indication of where the aircraft is in relation to the proper glide-scope required to land.

33
Q

What does the AN/SPN-43 provide

A

A 2D radar used by air traffic control to marshal and vector aircraft

34
Q

What is TACC

A

Tactical air control center

Provides centralized planning, control, coordination, and interrogation of air operations and airspace movement in support of amphibious operations, joint operations for the ARG

35
Q

How many sections is TACC organized in to

A

5

36
Q

What are the 5 sections of TACC

A
Air traffic control section (ATCS)
Helicopter control section (HCS)
Air support control section (ASCS)
Plans and support section (PSS)
Air defense coordination section (ADCS)
37
Q

What is TACC responsible for

A

Responsible for the control of all air operations and air space control for the AOR

38
Q

What is CIC responsible for

A

Responsible to the operations officer for coordination of all matters pertaining to combat operations also responsible for the execution of tactical orders for the ship and the ACE during battles which is handled by the TAO

39
Q

What is the JIC and what are they responsible for

A

Joint intelligence center

Responsible for the collection, display, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence information including the breeding and debriefing of pilots prior to and after missions
