The standard of living below that of the majority in a particular society which involves hardships and lack of resources.

What is deindustrialisation?
The decline of a country’s traditional manufacturing industry due to exhaustion of raw materials, loss of markets and overseas competition.
How does deindustrialisation affect areas?
it left many people in Newcastle unemployed when the ship yards closed. This triggered a spiral of decline which left many people deprived.
