OPP
Osteopathic principles and practice
refers to the osteopathic philosophy and the course in medical school in which you learn about the principles, practice and philosophy of osteopathic medicine
OMT
Osteopathic manipulative treatment
the hands-on diagnosis and treatment utilizing osteopathic evaluation, diagnosis and manipulative treatment methods
-note: it is not therapy
OMT method
a group of techniques that apply to a set of distinct unifying principles that guide individualized treatment
OMT technique
a specific therapeutic manual procedure, for example Dalrymple pedal pump, galbreath mandibular drainage, pectoral traction, CV-4
Osteopathic medicine
practice of incorporating the osteopathic philosophy into the art of medicine
OMM
osteopathic manipulative medicine
the practice of incorporating osteopathic medicine AND OMT into the total care of a patient
NMM-OMM
neuromusculoskeletal medicine
medical specialty requiring ONMM residency and board certification
osteopathic philosophy
a concept of health care supported by expanding scientific knowledge that embraces the concept of the unity of the living organism’s structure (anatomy) and function (physiology). emphasizes the four tenets
osteopathic physician
person with full-unlimited medical practice rights who has achieved the nationally recognized academic and professional standards within his or her country to practice diagnosis and treatment based upon the principles of osteopathic philosophy. individual countries establish the national academic and professional standards for osteopathic physicians practicing within their countries. All DOs trained in the USA are osteopathic physicians
osteopath
a person trained in osteopathic principles, practices, and philosophy, but is not a physician. these individuals were not trained in the USA and do not have full-unlimited medical practice rights anywhere in the world
osteopathic practitioner
refers to an osteopath, an osteopathic physician, or an allopathic physician who has been trained in osteopathic principles, practices, and philosophy
