Opioids Flashcards
1
Q
Morphine Sulfate
A
Full agonist
contraindicated: morphine/sulfur drug hypersensitivity
2
Q
Buprenorphine
A
Partial Agonist/antagonist
- used for opioid dependence/withdrawl
- Cyp3A4 interactions = over/under dosing
3
Q
Naloxone (Narcan)
A
Antagonist (pure)
- competes and displaces opioids at receptor sites
- Overdose antidote
- can make withdrawal worse
4
Q
Naltrexone
A
Antagonist (pure)
- high affinity for Mu receptor
- used for overdose
- used for tx of alcohol use disorder
- when used for overdose can cause pts to respond to lower opioid doses in future = potentially fatal opioid intoxication
- can make withdrawal worse
5
Q
Loperamide
A
used ti tx diarrhea
- very safe
- people take 400-500 tabs per day when addicted and cant get other opiods
- use naloxone for overdose
6
Q
Methadone
A
opioid agonist (mentioned in this lecture, but from Cooley) used to tx opioid use disorder *** DANGEROUS with Benzos = QT Prolongation (can cause death "fatal arrythmia" * Only available at special methadone clinics
