Morphine
Indication: severe pain for MI, sickle crisis, surgery
MEchanism: mu receptors at the pre and post synaptic membranes to decrease calcium, increase potassium and stop transmission
Side Effects: constipation, addiction, tolerance
Overdose: treat with noxalone
Meperidine
Indication: severe pain, biliary spasms, renal spasms
Mechanism: kappa receptors on pre synaptic membrane
Side Effect: seretonin syndrome, seizure, dysphoria
Methadone
Indication: Pain, cough, dependence
Mechanism: mu and delta receptor agonists to treat cough, dependence
Side Effect- Tolerance
Codeine
Indication: cough, diarrhea, irritable bowel, narcolepsy
MEchanism: mu recetor
Side effect: euphoria, itch, urinary retnetion, constipation
Pentazocine
Indication: analgesia
Mech: mu antagonist, delta/kappa agonist
Side effect: hallucination, cardio effects
Naloxone
Indication: OD
Mechanism:mu, delta, kappa antagonists
Side Effects: termble, change in mood/rhythym
Hydrocodone
Indication: pain, dry cough (bronchitis)
Mechanism: mu, delta agonist
Side Effect: recreation, constipation, addiction, tolerance
OD: sleepy, unconsciossness, wide pupils
