Opioid Analgesics Flashcards
Opioid Analgesics MOA
Binds to opiate receptors in the CNS where they act as agonists of endogenously occurring opioid peptides
Opioid Analgesics General Action/Desired Outcome
Alteration to the perception of and response to pain/decreased severity of pain without a significant alteration in level of consciousness or respiratory status
Opioid Analgesic Pre-Assessment
Pain Assessment, Blood Pressure, Pulse, and Respirations. Assess sedation if RR<10/min, Bowel Function, risk for opioid addiction (pt history)
Opioid Analgesic Peak Assessment
Pain, RR, LOC, BP
Opioid Analgesic Adverse Reactions
CNS depression (RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION, sedation, confusion constipation, hypotension)
Opioid Analgesic Indication
Moderate to severe pain
Opioid Analgesic Teaching
Abuse potential, may cause drowsiness (call for assistance when ambulating, until response is known)
Opioid Analgesic Antidote
Naloxone
