strategic role of operations (CP)
Operations refer to the activities of a business which transform inputs into outputs.
- The long-term goal of operations is to maintain competitive advantage through ‘COST LEADERSHIP’ or ‘PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION’.
‘cost leadership’?
The business will develop operations at ‘lowest unit cost’ compared to competitors (at a given quality).
‘product differentiation’ ?
The physical appearance of goods, the level of service and the availability of products which gives the business a competitive advantage //example: it appeals to me/what i buy ALSO it offers something over an oppositions product
