Operations Bulletin Book Flashcards

1
Q

What are the normal operating Temps for a catalytic converter?

A

Ranges between 1300-1600 degrees internally and about 1000 degrees externally.
They may also easily exceed 1600 degrees when the engine is in poor operating condition, operating under severe load, or has misfiring cylinders.

Metros CNG buses contain-

A

7 CNG tanks that operate at 3600 PSI (3400 cold- 4000 PSI warm)
Each tank is 120” long and 15.9” in diameter weighing 269 lbs.
They are plastic with a carbon glass fiber wrap.

6
Q

What are the safety devices present on a CNG bus?

A

8 pressure relief devices on the roof area. These devices will activate at 5400 PSI, or when the tank is heated to 200 degrees.
Additionally, there are 4 methane sensors, 2 in the tank compartment area and 2 in the engine compartment. They alert for trace and significant leaks, the latter will shut down the engine.
For fires, there is an extinguishing agent that will be released when temperatures reach 280 degrees, or it can be manually activated by the driver.

Q

What are the special considerations for CNG?

A

CNG is lighter than air.
Flash point of 560 degrees
Remove ignition sources 100’ for minor leaks, 300’ for major.
CNG is non-toxic, but heavy concentrations will displace oxygen in confined spaces.

Q

TIC’s operate in one of 2 modes, they are-

A

Low and High sensitivity.
High Sensitivity operates at temperatures below 300 degrees; low sensitivity is anything above 300 degrees. Low will be indicted by showing an L on the screen.

Q

Describe the Streetcar Power Supply system

A

Street cars are powered by electricity taken from the Overhead Catenary system(OCS) conveyed through a pantograph on the roof of the streetcar.
Traction Power Sub-stations (TPSS) take in 13,000 volts AC from PEPCO and convert it to 750 volts DC which is carried in the catenary lines approximately 20’ above grade.
Rescuers must maintain a distance of at least 10’ from the catenary lines at all times when energized.

16
Q

What is the quickest way to de-energize a streetcar?

A

The quickest way is to have the operator lower the pantograph. If the normal control circuits fail, it can be lowered manually by a had crank located in Cab “A” behind the operator.

17
Q

With an intact catenary system and no hazard from a fire, what are the general safety requirements for working in and around a streetcar?

A

Lower the pantograph, control battery power, and chocking of the wheels will suffice.

18
Q

Where will units initially stage for a WMD or Bombing incident?

A

Units will stage at one location 2 blocks uphill and upwind. If explosive materials are involved units should stage a minimum of 1500 and not in direct line of sight of the incident.

19
Q

How do you protect personnel during incidents involving radioactive materials?

A

Time, distance, and shielding.

20
Q

For incidents involving WMD’s or explosives how will the first due engine company enter the area?

A

The first due engine co. shall cautiously approach the incident from uphill and upwind and stop at a minimum of 500’ or where casualties or damage are first encountered.

21
Q

In regards to incidents involving WMD’s or explosives, what should members mindful of in relation to radios, cell phones, and the MDT’s?

A

Officers and members shall not transmit on radios when within 500 feet of the incident.
Additionally, MDT’s shall not be activated and all cell phones will be turned off.
Radios usage may resume after the scene has been swept for primary and secondary devices.

22
Q

Andrews Underground Fuel Transmission Pipeline-

A
  • in use 17-20 hours per week
  • Moves JP/8 fuel from the anacostia to AAFB
  • Along the pipeline, pressures can reach as much as 300 PSI
  • Pipeline remains full when not in use and may have 85 PSI at the river end.
  • JP/8 is moderately irritating to eyes and skin
23
Q

What is contained in the “Go Bag”?

A

1 carry bag
1 Scott 40 mm adapter
1 Scott NTC-1 (NBC) Canister
1 Dupont Tychem SL chemical protective suit with hood and boots.
1 pair nitrile protective heavy duty gloves (Green)
2 pair disposable nitrile gloves
1 roll tape
1 pair latex heavy duty boot covers (yellow)
1 infection control kit
1 pocket mask
1 N95 mask - 3M - Model 1870

24
Q

After use of the “Go Bag” on an actual incident, how is it documented?

A

Form 53.1 Accompanied by a special report to the DFC- Special Operations.

25
Q

Define a Mass Casualty Incident-

A

9 or more patients, and it must be declared a mass casualty incident.

26
Q

According to Safety Ops Bulletin 4, what conditions must be met in order for the IC to allow personnel to operate without the use of SCBA?
