What does TLP mean?

Define TLP?
A dynamic process used by smaller unit leaders (BTRY level and below) to analyze a mission, develop a plan, and prepare for operation
What are the first 5 steps of TLP?
- Receive the mission
- Issue the WARNO
- Make a tentative plan
- Initiate movement
- Conduct recon
What are steps 6-8 of the TLP?
- Complete the plan
- Issue the order
- Supervise and refine
What is step 1 of TLP and what does it consist of?
Receive the mission
It’s the PL’s mission analysis using CDRs METT-TC (hasty)
Initiates the planning and preparation process
What is step 2 of the TLP and what does it consist of?
Issue the WARNO and the PL disseminates the WARNO
What must be included in the WARNO?
- Type of operation
- General location of the operation
- Initial operation timeline
- Recon to initiate
- Movement to initiate
- Planning and preparing instructions
- Info requirements
- Commanders info requirements
What is step 3 of the TLP and what does it consist of?
Make a tentative plan.
The mission statement must always have the 5 Ws, it restates the commanders mission in the mission statement to show your understanding of the mission
What is step 4 of the TLP?
Initiate movement
What is step 5 of the TLP?
Conduct recon (based on tentative plan)
What is step 6 of the TLP and what does it consist of?
Complete the plan.
Taking the commanders intent and platoons CONOP and puts it into an OPORD
What is step 7 of the TLP?
Issue the order
Should be done in person (face to face)
And put into an OPORD
What is step 8 of the TLP and what does it consist of?
Supervise and refine
Confirmation/ briefs/ rehearsals/ inspections
