maternal exhaustion, failure to progress, medical indications to avoid prolonged pushing such as cardiac disease or hypertensive crisis
safety criteria for operative vaginal delivery?
head must be engaged. less than one fifth palpable
station must be at level of ischial spines or below
caput and moulding is no more than moderate
cervix fully dilated and membranes ruptured
exact position of head has been determined and correct placements of instruments can be achieved
when can you to do operative vaginal delivery?
mal presentation : breech
absolute - cephalopelvic disproportion
what is cephalopelvic disproportion ?
baby head is too big to fit through mothers pelvis
this is an ABSOLUTE contraindication to operational vaginal delivery
complications of forceps delivery?
perinneal trauma
facial bruising
temporary facial nerve palsy
post operative complications of c section?
increased risk of placenta previa and uterine rupture with vaginal birth after c section
