Q

The MEL lists:

A

The equipment, systems and installations that must be serviceable before a particular flight is undertaken. It provides the Commander with the authority to operate the aeroplane with specified items of unserviceable equipment.

The CDL (CONFIGURATION DEVIATION LIST) …

A

Lists the aeroplane panels and doors that may be missing for a particular operation and pictorially indicates areas of damage to the aeroplane skin/ structure that is considered acceptable for flight.

MOCA (ex: 4500T)

A

Minimum Obstacle Clearance Altitude
- The maximum terrain or obstacle elevation whichever is higher, plus
- 1000 ft for elevation up to and including 6000 ft
- 2000 ft for elevation exceeding 6000ft
rounded up to the next 100 ft

Q

MORA (ex: 9800a / 98)

A

Minimum Off-Route Altitude

  • Route MORA (ex: 9800a) provides obstacle clearance in an area extending 10 NM to either side of the route centerline (regardless of the route width) and including a 10 NM radius beyond the points defining the route segments
  • Grid MORA (ex: 98) - green up to 10000 ft, brown for 10000 ft and higher
  • MORA clears all terrain and obstacles by 1000 ft in areas where the highest elevation is 5000 ft, and by 2000 ft for elevation and obstacles 5001 ft and above

Q
MEA (ex: FL 50)
GPS MEA (ex: 4500G)
A

Minimum En-route Altitude, is the lowest published altitude between radio fixes that meets obstacle clearance requirements between those fixes and, in many countries ensures acceptable navigational signal coverage.

Q

Usable aerodrome

A
  • is adequate for the operation,
  • the meteorological conditions satisfy the planning minima for the expected time of operation, and
  • applicable crew qualification requirements are complied with.

Q

Alternate aerodrome

A

An alternate is an aerodrome to which an aeroplane may proceed and land if it becomes either impossible or inadvisable to proceed to, or to land at the aerodrome intended.

Q

Take-off alternate

A

An alternate aerodrome to which an aeroplane can safely proceed and land with one-engine inoperative whenever the aerodrome of departure is not available for a possible return due to meteorological or performance reasons.

Q

En-route alternate

A

An alternate aerodrome to which an aeroplane can safely proceed and land while flying en-route, taking into account weather and aerodrome conditions after experiencing a deviation from the planned conditions, an abnormal or emergency condition.

Q

Intermediate alternate (IA)

A

An IA is an aerodrome, which offers a landing possibility in case an en-route irregularity requires intermediate landing within the type of aeroplane specific threshold time.

Q

Isolated aerodrome

A

An isolated aerodrome is one for which the alternate and final fuel reserve required to the nearest adequate destination alternate aerodrome
– for aeroplanes with turbine engines – is more than fuel to fly for two hours at normal cruise consumption above the destination aerodrome.
