What is operant conditioning?
Operant conditioning is a type of learning that takes place because of actions and rewardsd
Positive reinforcement
A desirable consequence, you get something nice and the behaviour is reinforced.
Negative reinforcement
Something unpleasant is removed, behaviour is reinforced, more likely to be repeated.
Punishment
Something unpleasant happens.
Behaviour is weakened.
Primary reinforcer
Used to satisfy basic need e.g. food, water and warmth
Secondary reinforcer
Associated with a primary reinforcer e.g. money to buy food.
Behaviour shaping
Can be use operant conditioning behaviour to shape behaviour.
You can reinforce any behaviour that closely resembles the desired behaviour
