Ontilogical Argument Strengths Flashcards
It has certainty as a deductive argument if the premises are true the conclusion myst be true
It has certainty as a deductive argument if the premises are true the conclusion myst be true
-Whilst inductive arguments are only probabilistic, deductive arguments give absolute certainty.
-The Ontological Argument is a deductive argument - if it succeeds, it is absolute proof of the existence of God.
-This is much more reliable and certain than inductive arguments, which can only give probability.
For theists
Anselm’s definition is in fact claiming that God is limitless and for many, if there is a God, his definition makes good sense
Verifiable
Its ability to be verified without sense experience means it is not
open to unreliable or bias experiences.
Anselm’s Ontological Argument is supported by Descartes
-Descartes was a mathematician, scientist and philosopher.
-He asserted it was ‘quite evident’ that God must exist by definition.
