onramp: algebra I Flashcards
Define: monomial
A real number, a variable, or a product of a real number and one or more variables with whole-number exponents.
If you break the word down, “mono” means one and “nomial” means number. Therefore monomial means “one number” or, in this case, “one term.”
ex: 4, 3x, 9x4
Define: polynomial
Two or more monomials connected using addition and subtraction operations.
ex: 8x+4
A polynomial of degree three.
Cubic
A polynomial of degree two.
Quadratic
A polynomial of degree one.
Linear
A polynomial of degree zero.
Constant
A polynomial of one term.
Monomial
A polynomial of two terms.
Binomial
A polynomial of three terms
Trinomial
A polynomial of more than three terms.
Polynomial
A polynomial of degree four or greater.
Fourth degree, fifth degree, sixth degree, etc
