One PMO Flashcards
Project
A project is composed of tasks and milestones which can be regroups and interdependent
Group of tasks
A groups of tasks in a sub-project and is composed of tasks and milestones
Task
An activity which is carried out by resources within a definite duration
MIlestone
A task with zero or instant duration. Used as markers in a project to set up production points, tasks or moments of synchronization, dates of billing or reporting, and markers or junctions of results.
Lag
Duration or a percentage that expresses a period of time that has to elapse before a dependency between two tasks can take effect.
Dependency
A succession constraint which can be created between elements such as tasks, milestones, task groups and other projects.
4 Dependency Types
- End to start: the most common. The start of an element depends on the end of its predecessor.
- Start to start: The start of an element depends on the start of another.
- End to end: The complete achievement of one element will depend on the end of it’s predecessor.
- Start to end: The end of one element will be synchronized with the beginning of another.
Calendars
Shows the range of dates during which a task cannot be performed or during which some resources will not be available.
Capacities are calendars and coefficients that can be applied to tasks and resources.
Coefficient
A set of values applied to tasks or resources to stimulate the impact of events or factors which will affect feasibility / availability or efficiency [Productivity]
Coefficients reduce the capactity of a resources or the feasibility of a task.
Follow probabilistic rules, because one doesn’t always know when somone is going to be ill [Sickness] or when weather conditions for example will prevent a task from being carried out.
KPI
Key Performance Indiciators
Offer a clear summary of the performance of your planning simulation.
