One Dimensional Motion Flashcards
Scalars and Vectors
Scalars - only the magnitude (number and unit) of an object
Vectors - describes the magnitude and the direction of an object
Displacement vs. Distance
Displacement - the distance from the initial position to the final position. Shortest line that connects its initial and final position points.
Distance - total length covered/travelled
Velocity vs. Speed
Velocity - how fast + where it’s going. The way your position changes over time
Speed - how fast an object is moving
Time & Acceleration
Time - how long
Acceleration- how fast the velocity is moving. The rate of change of velocity
Free Fall
Happens when you either drop a ball or throw a ball straight upwards with no horizontal component.
Gravitational Acceleration = -9.81 m/s^2
Projectile Motion
Same as Free Fall but with horizontal component
