Geometric Optics Flashcards
Reflection
Light rays, “incident rays”, collide with an object and later these rays bounce in another direction, “reflected rays”
Specular - reflected in the same direction
Diffuse - reflected in different directions
Law of Reflection
The angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of reflection.
Refraction
Bending of a ray when it passes at an angle from one medium into another in which its speed is different.
Angle of Refraction
The angle between a refracted ray and the normal drawn at the point of incidence to the interface at which refraction occurs.
Mirror
Reflective smooth surface that bounces off light.
Types:
Plane
Convex - curved outwards
Concave - curved inward
Lenses
A transparent material that refracts light rays in such as way to for an image.
Types:
Convex Lens - thicker across the middle
Concave Lens - thinner across the middle
