Breast cancer screening
WHO?
woman aged between 50-74 years old- every 2 years
Otherwise special consideration for
-FHx
-breast cancer in the past 5 years
-any breast cancer symptoms- unilateral lump, lumpiness
-changes in size, shape or colour of breast and nipple
( redness, inversion)
- skin changes, dimpling, swelling and bulging
- iiritation , rashes and pain that persists
Bowel cancer screening using Free home test kit
WHO?
Eligible for citizen aged 50-74 years every 2 years
Cervical cancer screening
WHO?
Women aged 25 to 74 years for every 5 years.
Prostate cancer screening
Not recommended in asymptomatic men but its the most common cancer in men aged 55 years and older ( 90% of new cases)
99% of prostate cancer death occur in this age group
Men with 1st degree relatives with prostate cancer has higher risk
Skin cancer screening
Does not recommend mass or population based screening but opportunistic screening by GP for full body examination and appropriate plan.
GP to develop surveillance program for high risk patients- previous history, family history, high sun exposure and pts on immunosuppression.
Lung cancer screening
Currently under application by Medical services advisory commitee for National Lung cancer screening program.
Last reviewed in June 2022
Their recommendation are
1. New Medicare Benefit schedule item for low dose computed tomography scan to support early detection of lung cancer in asymptomatic individual on a biennial basis for eligible individual
- aged 50 to 70 years with a history of cigarette smoking of at least 30 p/year.
-ex smokers- quit within previous 10 years
There was high certainty clinical evidence to suggest that it would lead to reduction in lung cancer mortality
