Q

Maintain TAS until cleared for the Approach.

A

If you wish to slow down early, you MUST ask permission to slow down.

Unless specifically stated by ATC, an instruction to resume normal speed does not cancel speed restrictions that are applicable to published procedures of upcoming segments of flight.

Q

TOD

A

is a point at which a steady descent profile is started, this is usually started at the altitude given for 8-10 miles before touchdown. Descending early to the minimum altitude published on the approach is considered a step down procedure and is considered a major error.
