omt Flashcards
Parkinson’s Biomechanical OMT
- GOALS: increase joint motion/function, normalize muscle tone, pain relief
- ME active: ROM, decrease muscle spasm, improve hypkinesia
- ROM techniques: prevent contractual, joint restriction, fibrous adhesion
- BLT: normalizing joint mech, resetting proprioceptors
- counterstrain: decrease pain at tenderpoint
- MFR: decrease myofscial restriction
- FPR: decrease muscle spasm
Parkinson’s Neurologic OMT
- GOALS: optimize neural function, improve autonomic balance, restore regulatory function
- cranium: OM suture: normalize vagal tone
- suboccipital, upper cervical regions: cervical MFR, -suboccipital release: normalize vagal tone
- sacro-iliac joint and sacrum: sacral rock, BTL: normalize parasympatheytic tone
- RIb raising: decreased impingement of sympathetic chain ganglia
- inhibition of abdominal ganglia: normalize sympathetic to the organs of abd and pelvic regions
Parkinson’s Respiratory-circulatory OMT
GOALS: improve thoracic cage compliance, optimize movement of lymphatics and CV circulation
- MFR
- thoracic outlet release
- pectoral traction
- diaphragm doming
- rib raising
- pelvic diaphragm release
- lymphatic pumps
- wobble technique
Parkinson’s Bio-energy OMT
-GOALS: fatigue, restore balance
Parkinson’s Psycho-behavioral considerations OMT
- GOAL: disability and depression
- affecting perception of pain, coping mech, and decrease disability
Dizziiness and Vertigo Biomechanical OMT
dysfunction of temporal bones
SD in neck & extremities
headache bilateral, pressure or tightness/waxing & waning, variable duration, no associated symptoms
tension headache
headache unilateral (majority), gradual onset, pulsating, moderate-severe intensity, 4-72 hours, associated symptoms of nausea, vomiting, photophobia, phonophobia
migraine
