Review Viscerosomatics Flashcards
YESS DOO IT! :)
Healing ability depends on…
1) ability to remove waste products for the tissue
2) deliver oxygen and other nutrients to area of concern
(venous and lymphatics!)
Pacinian corpuscles detect?
changes in pressure
Free nerve endings detect?
stretch
With what components does the viscero-somatic system start?
pacinian copuscles and free nerve endings that respond to stretch or spasm
Describe Visceral pain
EARLY - Vague and poorly localized
gnawing, burning, cramping
Describe somatic pain
LATER after condition has progressed
-Well-localized, asymmetric, and aggravated by jarring motions
(think appendix … starts vague periumbilical then localizes to mcburneys)
What is the preference for motion when a somatic dysfunction is irritating viscero-somatic areas?
- extension (small rotatores)
- rotation & side bending TO THE SAME SIDE as involved organ
Pathophysiology of sympathtics & some dysfunction
- Inc vascular tone = dec O2 and nutrients to tissues
- Inc mucosal sensitivity to H+ and alters the mucosal barrier
- relaxation of gallbladder and ducts
- dec peristalsis –> constipation
Thoracic splancnic sympathetics go to?
celiac ganglion
Lumbar splancnic sympathetics go to?
inferior mesenteric ganglion
Chapmans - stomach points:
tender - spaces between ribs 5/6 and 6/7 anteriorly
Chapmans - colon points:
tender - lateral sides of the thigh in the anterior half of the iliotibial bands from the greater trochanters to the lateral epicondyles of the femurs
(reflect colon onto the thigh - so cecum = upper thigh R leg, ascending = mid thigh R leg, hepatic flexure = distal thigh R leg, and so one up the L thigh
Pathophysiology of parasympathtics & some dysfunction
- Inc acid secretion
- contraction of gallbladder and ducts
- peristalsis –> diarrhea
