OMC RIM Flashcards
OMC Section 9 : Hot and High
Density Alt (DA) Calculations…
D/A = A/Field Press Alt x 1000’ per 8℃ > ISA
Jo’burg elev = 5500’ OAT 32℃
ISA is 4℃ [-2℃ per 1000’ = 15-11℃] ie. 4℃
Temp is 32 - 4 = 28℃ above ISA
28/8 = 3.5
DA = 5500’ + (3.5 x 1000) = 9000’
Altimeter UNDER-READS and GrndSpd is higher for given IAS
OMC Section 9 : Cold Error correction
Use the calculator, but why is dangerous and how is it worked out?
4% over-read height per 10℃ below ISA
CYYZ OAT -10℃
ISA 15℃ so temp is 25℃ below ISA
25/10 = 2.5, 4% x 2.5 = 10%
Altimeter over-reading by 10%
MDA is 500’ - corrected = 550’
Altimeter OVER-READS - DANGEROUS
eg. position check 2500’ RA = 2750’ baro
