OM-A Chapter 7 FTDLs Flashcards
What is the definition of a day off?
To add
What is the definition of acclimatised?
A
What is the definition of an FDP? (Flight Duty Period)
A
What are the 5 variations that make up Annex 7?
A B C D E
What are the 3 general strategies that can be employed to extend an FDP?
Inflight rest (I.e. by having augmenting crew)
Split duty (only applies to a multi-sector duty)
Commanders discretion (up to 3 hours).
(This does not do consider a waiver of FDP limits by the Chief Pilot in extreme/exceptional circimstances).
What is the definition of a ‘local night’.
8 hours uninterrupted rest between the hours of 10pm and 8am (which is a 10 hour period)
What is the definition of a night duty?
A
What is the criteria (ie what defines) Long Range Variation (LRV)? (I.e. flight time of how long?)
A
For a 2 crew duty, a sector time above how many hours must be ‘factored’ using table 7.9.3 for subsequent FDP calculation from table 7.6.2.1 (acclimatised) or table 7.6.2.2 (unaclimmatised) ?
A
What are the “Report Times’ for: Non-LRV departing DXB? Non-LRV departing an outstation? LRV departing DXB? LRV departing an outstation?
A
When does an FDP end?
What is the importance of the 30 min period immediately after the end of an FDP?
When the park brakes are set.
This 30 mins is part of the FDP however it is taken into consideration in summation with the FDP for calculation of the minimum rest period that is required after a duty. I.e. minimum subsequent rest is the greater of 12 hours or FDP+30 mins.
What FDP start period, in local time of day, has the longest FDP? What period has the shortest?
Which preceding rest period has the longest FDP, 18-30, or <18, >30? Shortest?
Longest: 0800-1259
Shortest:
Longest: <18, >30
Shortest: 18-30
How is FDP extension calculated for rest in a bunk?
What is the maximum FDP after taking rest in a bunk?
What about for rest in a seat? Business class or First class? Maximum?
Bunk: FDP extension time is 1/2 time of inflight rest taken so long as the maximum (see below) is not exceeded. 7.7.1.3
The maximum FDP after extension when rest is taken in a bunk is 18 hours. 7.7.1.3
Seat: Note: This pertains to a business class seat. A first class seat is considered to be a bunk in terms of FDP extension due to inflight rest. So for rest in a Y class seat, FDP extension time = 1/3 inflight rest taken so long as the maximum FDP (see below) is not exceeded. 7.7.1.3
The maximum FDP after an extension due to in-flight rest in a seat (business class) is 15 hours. 7.7.1.3
Rest in an F seat, as per a bunk, FDP extension time = 1/2 inflight rest taken. Max =18 hours. 7.7.1.3
How is an FDP extension due to using a split duty calculated?
The duty needs to be 2 or more sectors (can’t use a split duty to extend an FDP for a single sector duty).
The rest that is taken between sectors to make it a split duty needs to be more than 3 hours. In other words if there is 3 hours or less rest between sectors then this does not qualify as a split duty.
If the rest taken between sectors (which is obviously less than the minimum rest required between duties) is between 3 and 10 hours then the time of extension to the FDP is equal to half the time of the rest taken.
