What happened in the oka crisis?

A
  • mohalk indians ser up a blockade to prevent bulldozers from breaking ground for a golf course that would be built on a native burial ground that belonged to them
  • police came to tear blockade down and it became a gunfire range from both sides
  • police officer was shot and killed
  • natives at a near by reserve erected a blockade to support the other mohawk indians
  • lots of violent acts- army had to come in
  • the mohawk Indians surrendered and most of the leaders were arrested
