What are the four approaches to acculturation?
Annihilation, segregation, assimilation, accomodation
What is annihilation?
The belief that some cultures, because of their supposed superiority and power, have the right to destroy other cultures
What is segregation?
The belief that certain aspects of culture should be protected from contract with other cultures because of the risk of contamination and change
What is assimilation?
When a less dominant culture is absorbed into a dominant culture and their culture starts to resemble the dominant culture
What is accomodation?
When two or more cultures live side by side maintaining their own identity yet sharing aspects of each culture
What is acculturation?
The process of two or more cultures adaption to eachother so that people within the respective cultures can interact with eachother
