Ohm's Law and Circuits Flashcards
what are then units of Ampere?
C/S or charge/time
What are the units of current?
Ampere or charge/time = C/sec
What are two equations for power?
P = IV or I^2R
What is a DC circuit?
single direction flow current - direct current
How can you think of electrical potential related
think of it as gravitational potential energy rolling down a hill
- go from positive to negative is like going from high potential energy to lower
- R = V/I > relationship between voltage and current
What are the units for Faraday?
coulumb / volt
What is the equation for capacitance and Cā?
C = free perm Area/Distance C' = C *k (dieletric constant)
Resistors vs Capacitors in series and parallale
Resistors in series:
- add them up for total total R
Resistors in parallel:
- are equal and are 1/R
Capacitors in series:
- adding in series adds to voltage drop, so 1/C
Capacitors in parallel:
- add them up for total
Where is a volmeter measured?
- in parallel to minimize resistance added to the circuit
- has infinite resistance to not pull current
Ammometer:
- in series with point, resistance negligble
Ohmsmeter
- in serires or parallel, has known resistance
A uniform electrical field equation:
E = V/D
Potential energy equation of capacitance? what equation is this related to?
PE = 1/2CV^2
- similar to formula for kinetic energy
- stored potential energy
