  • diamagnetic: all suborbitals filled > cannot be magnetized
  • Paramagnetic: 1/2 suborbitals filled with random spin > overall no net dipole
    Weak attraction to mag fields, can be temp polarized only in presence external field
  • ferromagnetic: unpaired electron stable, non-random spin and permanent magnet
