what Is a hazard?
A hazard has the potential to cause serious harm, in terms of human injury or health

how to identify a hazard
identify existing and potential hazards in the workplace, report them to designated persons, and record them according to workplace procedures.

what is PPE and what does it include ?
PPE is (personal protective equipment). it is equipment worn by a person to provide protection from hazards, by providing a physical barrier between the person and the hazard.
what are workplace health and safety procedures ?
some include:
- completing required documentation
- following WHS guidelines
- following procedures for work area housekeeping
- handling, using and storing toxic and hazardous chemicals
what is in an indecent report form?
in the form, details should be given of the hazard identified or a description of the event of incident that has occurred.
what should you record if someone had an injury ?
if an injury has been caused by the hazard a description of the injury of the location should be documented. it is up to a supervisor/ manager to follow up the incident.
reporting safety issues in the workplace
when reporting safety incidents in the workplace you should talk to your managers about these safety issues. Safety issues are things like poor housekeeping.
sharps disposal
The disposal of sharps must be done in a puncture proof container like a bio-can or a similar hard container such as sealable Tupperware container or plastic drink bottle
what is the hierarchy of control?
provides a number of options for managing and controlling hazards and risk within the workplace
how many levels of protection are there in the hierarchy of control and what are they ?
LEVEL 1 CONTROLS
- Elimination

LEVEL 2 CONTROLS
- Substitution
replacement of the item/object
- Isolation
create a barrier between harm and employees
- Engineering controls
changes to equipment , materials or resourced to reduce the harm
LEVEL 3 CONTROLS
- Administrative controls
implement of training, changes to rosters, timing, policies or procedures.

implement the use of personal protective equipment e.g protective glasses, ear plugs
what is duty of care?
duty of care is required for reasonable measures to ensure everyone in the organisation is safe at all times
what is environmental protection ?
Environmental protection in the sport and rec industry is when you are running sessions outside try have minimal impact on the area you are using. e.g. don’t litter, don’t damage environment like breaking trees, etc.
what is risk minimisation and how is it used?
Risk minimisation is the practice of trying to minimise the risk of your clients getting injured or an incident occurring. To minimise risks you can do a risk assessment on the area you are working in. Also make sure you fill out incident reports so you can avoid the incident occurring again.
what is a debrief procedure and why is it important ?
A debriefing is a meeting that occurs every so often so that a workplace can go over there procedures and policies and if there are any new ones they are said so all employees know. They generally happen after an incident has occurred. They are important because they give the employees a chance to speak up if they may be a bit worried after witnessing a injury/incident. They are important as well ti refresh the procedures and policies in the employees heads
how to manage stress
Sleep, Getting enough every night
- Exercise, Make you happier and more positive through releasing endorphin’s
- Limit alcohol intake, Is a depressant drug meaning it slows down your central nervous system and will make you feel worse
- Eat healthy foods regularly, By not eating your blood glucose levels lower and make you lethargic and irritable.
what is work related fatigue ?
This causes mental and physical exhaustion. Employees who are fatigued are less productive and are a safety concern. Not only putting themselves at risk but others around them also. the person needs to relax, unwind and restore their work life balance.
signs that the person may be fatigued
- Excessive yawning
- Falling asleep at work
- Short term memory loss
- Poor judgment
- Being negative
what is the benefit of stress management ?
Benefits of stress management is that your employees will have better output and performance of work tasks as well as less absences.
