What is the definition of a Missing Person?
- Any person who is reported missing to Police
- Whose whereabouts are unknown
AND - There are fears for safety, or concerns for the welfare, of that person
What 4 categories do missing persons fall into?
- Voluntary
- Involuntary
- Lost
- Missing Overseas
What is a voluntary missing persons?
They have control over their actions and decisions.
- runaways, removed themselves, unaware they have been reported missing.
What is an involuntary missing persons?
Missing against their will.
- murder, kidnapping, abduction, people suffering dementia, mental health.
What is a lost missing persons?
People who are disorientated and want to be found.
- lost at sea, bush, car accidents. (SAR operations)
What is missing overseas missing persons?
Reported by people in NZ, foreign nationals missing in NZ.
Who can report a missing person?
Any person can report a missing person
What are the fears of safety to consider? ZACSUD
Z - zone of safety - outside their usual surroundings, unable to cope ( mental health) A - age - very young, very old C - circumstances S - suspicious U - unusual D - dangerous
