- 20% upper
- 50% middle
- 30% lower

- Squamous cell
- adenocarcinomas

What are the risk factors for developing
A
- Alcohol
- Smoking
- Diet / obesity
- Achalasia
- Reflux oesphagitis +/- Barrett’s (+++ risk if severe reflux)

What are the symptoms
A
- Dysphagia
- Weight loss
- Retrosternal pain
- Lymphadenopathy

What investigations
A
- Barium swallow
- CXR
- Oesophagoscopy w. biopsy

What is the treatment
A
- Survival rates poor w/out treatment
- If localised –> radial curative oesophagectomy
