shown through the standard xenia routine that both calypso and hermes undergo- Calypso offers Hermes nectar and ambrosia- this shows how xenia is not just limited to the mortals

she talks about the difference in the expected role of the gods and goddesses in the Odyssey and the Illiad- this is evident through Calypso’s anger at the prospect of letting Odysseus go, and she challenges Hermes claiming that there is a clear contrast between gods and goddesses have mortal affairs.

they claim that mortals cannot see the true gods and that even mortals such as Odysseus cannot figure out which god is controlling his fate- Other human beings are even less likely to find out how gods relate to one another.
