is a brackish salty lagoon (rare) well renowned for its bird life. it is a good example of a temporary store in the water cycle

where does it get most of its sediment from
several major deltas – mostly receives fluvial sediment
how much of the coastline is eroding and how much is stable (%)
36.8% is eroding and only 14.4% is stable — 85.6% of the coastline is dynamic
what fauna (animals) live there
large stocks of fish , marine mammals and olive ridley turtles. the large amounts of fish= industry= economic opportunity

how does Odisha mitigate to tropical storm hazards?
after the 1999 Odisha cyclone that killed 10,000 there are several mitigation strategies that are now in place. the authorities provide relief supplies ahead of approaching storms, broadcast warnings and stage evacuations in the most vulnerable areas
how are the people of Odisha shown to be resilient to natural disasters
mainly because they still live there. in October 2013 cyclone Phailin struck the Odisha coast and over 1 million people were evacuated in areas of greatest risk (mitigation) but they still returned
what is an ICZM strategy
integrated coastal zone management
why was an ICZM strategy chosen in Odisha
takes into account the entire coastline in order to coordinate the activities of various stakeholders and promote the sustainable use of the coasts natural resources while maintaining the natural environment
who is involved in the ICZM process
there are a variety of stakeholders and people involved. the local community has had their opinions taken into account. the project is a joint venture with involving the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Indian gov, the world bank and the gov of Odisha
