Laurent Clerc (Deaf)
Gaulladet walked and saw little girl alone away from all the many children playing. Gaulladet tried speaking to her but little girl was Deaf and could not hear him.
Deaf girl name: Alice Cogswell
Gaulladet wanted to teach Alice but knew there was no school for Deaf people in America
Alice’s father was a doctor and asked Gaulladet because he wanted a teacher for Deaf school
Gaulladet gets on a boat (no planes yet), for 3 months, and arrived in England
Looked for Deaf school in England and found Thomas Braidwood (Speaking)
Braidwood taught Deaf school like speaking children, Thomas didn’t like this and sound a Deaf school in France
Gaulladet went to France (Paris), Deaf teacher (Clerc) taught Deaf children signing
He liked this because teacher was Deaf, students signing, students happy
Gaulladet asked teacher (Clerc) to help open first Deaf school in America
Clerc was hesitant because he loved France but Thomas kept asking please
