What is OCD?
DSM-5 states OCD is the presence of obsessions, compulsions or both. OCD is characterised as a psychological pattern associated with distress or distractibility.
Describe obsessions
Obsessions are described as recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges or images. They are intrusive and unwanted they are suppressed with other thoughts/actions (compulsion).
Describe compulsions
Compulsions are repetitive behaviours, or mental acts performed in response to an obsession. This aims to reduce amazingly of distress of a dreaded event. This is normally excessive and maladaptive.

2-3% of the population
