measures of OCD

A

maudley’s obsessive compulsive inventory (MOCI)
- quick assessment tool
- assess symptoms such as checking, washing, doubting, slowness
- takes 5 minutes to complete
- 30 items that are either scored true or false
- produces a score range of 0 to 30

yale brown obsessive compulsive scale
- semi structured interview, takes 30 minutes to complete
- measures the nature and severity of individual’s symptoms
- checklist of obsessions and compulsions, 10 items severity scale
- patients have to rate how much tiem they spent on compulsions each day
- rate how much distress does the obsession cause
- rate how hard is to resist the obsession
- a score range of 0 to 40, above 16 is considered to be in the clinical range of schizophrenia

- 14 years old boy with OCD spent 3 hours showering, 2 hours getting dressed
- excessive hang washing rituals made him impossible to attend school on time
- he was given a drug trial, got effective relief in symptoms
- however, his symptoms relapsed as he developed tolerance to mediation

- fear of killing, harming someone
- strong desire for order and symmetry

- putting things into order
- excessive hand washing
- cheking things repeatedly

- associated with anxiety, intrusive

compulsions
- behaviours an individual feels driven to perform as a reult of obsessions
- believed must be carried out in rigid rules
