unwanted intrusive thought/image/urge that repeatedly occurs
what is a compulsion
repetitive behaviours or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform
what is the aetiology of OCD
psychological trauma
genetic predisposition
PANDAS - paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with streptococcal infections
associated with: depression, schizophrenia, anorexia nervosa, tourettes
how do you determine functional impairment
do they take >1hr everyday to carry out the compulsions
is it causing distress/effecting daily life
1st line OCD management
for mild functional impairment
CBT with exposure therapy
2nd line OCD management
moderate/severe functional impairment
give an SSRI (any but fluoxetine is good for body dysmorphia)
more intense CBT
combined treatment for severe
3rd line OCD management
give clomipramine (TCA)
