Occupational Hazards Flashcards
What is the expansion ratio & vapour density of LPG?
Expansion ratio = 270:1
Vapour density = 1.5
What is the vapour density of natural gas?
.55
What is a BLEVE?
Boiling
Liquid
Expanding
Vapour
Explosion
A liquid within a container reaching a temperature well above its boiling point at atmospheric temperature, causing the vessel to rupture into two or more pieces.
What are the (5) safe working practices for working in high expansion foam?
- BA must beworn
- Toxic gases may be trapped in high expansion foam
- Visibility is nil and hearing may be impaired
- Guidelines must be used
- Strict supervision must be maintained over persons entering foam
What are differences between LPG & Natural Gas?
LPG:
* Proprane & Butane
* Low boiling point
* Vapor Density: 1.5 (heavier than air)
* LEL 1.5%
* UEL 10%
Natural Gas:
* Colourless and odourless (odorant added)
* Predominately Methane (85% to 95%)
* Vapor Density .55 (lighter than air)
* LEL 5%
* UEL 15%
