Occlusal Appliance Therapy Flashcards
Types of Occlusal Appliances
Stabilization appliances Anterior positioning appliance Anterior bite plane Posterior bite plane Pivoting appliance Soft (resilient) appliance
Roll of Anterior Positioning Aplliance
Forces the jaw to move forward via a ramp
what does a Stabilization appliance do to the jaw
Does not move it forward or back (force is perpendicular to appliance) but creates a larger vertical dimension
Brings back into CR and spreads out occlusal load
optimal functional occlusion
what arch is a stabilization appliance made for
The Maxillary arch
where are the condyls for Stabilization appliances
Most musculoskeletally stable position at the time when the teeth are contacting evenly and simultaneously
what is the primary treatment goal of stabilization appliances
Eliminate any orthopedic instability
where are occlusal appliances made
Using a semi adjustable articulator
ways to make occlusal appliances
Indirect
Direct
what is the space between the teeth needed to create and occlusal appliance
1mm posterior
3mm anterior
what is done to the casts to begin making an occlusal appliance using the indirect tech
use warm wax to build up and distribute loads and create guidnace
Extensions are placed distal to the teeth
ontop of the wax is placed and acytlic cover
Boil off the wax then
Pore inresin to make the occlusal appliance
what is done to make an occlusal appliance the direct tech
TAke impression
pour in quick set stone
Vaccume form matrix on stone and then trim
Place matrix on mouth
add acyrlic in such away to estimate the correct oppening also when it is maliable
Vasiline to kep from sticking
