What is an antepartum haemorrhage?
Bleeding of GT from 20 weeks until birth
Causes: Placental abruption, praevia
Why are steroids given in pregnancy?
Given to mother to pass via placenta to mature baby’s lungs
What would the management plan be?
1) Cannulate 2) FBC, UE, LFT
3) keep on CTG 4) Observe for scar dehiscence/uterine rupture
What is placental abruption?
Premature separation of normal sized foetus from uterus
CP: Vaginal bleeding, Abdominal pain, uterine tenderness, contractions and foetal distress
What are the main RF for it?
Smoking, Hypertension, Cocaine, Folic Acid deficiency, Thrombophilia
What is placenta praevia?
Placenta developing in lower uterine segment
(Grades I->IV)
