The difference between a behaviour, internal condition and characteristic
Behaviour- Anything that can be seen, heard, counted or measured
Characteristics- Patterns of behaviours or sets of traits that distinguish an individual from others
Internal condition- Unobservable, internal states of being that are cognitive, emotional or physiologic
The difference between spectator mode and participatory mode
Spectator mode: Detached, uninvolved position, Allows you to look at “big picture”, Can observe influences on behaviours, Can focus on one child or group of children, Can take time, Observer should not be included in ratio.
Participatory mode: Observe while participating in classroom, Assist, observe, converse with children and make notes, Continue to scan room to observe all children, Used more frequently by teachers in the classroom
