Observational Design^ Flashcards
Structured Observation
list of beh that will observe
+ recording of data are easier/ systematic
+ quantitive data is easier to analyse
Unstructured Observation
observe a sample and notes everything+ more depth to the data- qualitative data is harder to record/ analyse- observer bias
: record what catches their eye
Behaviour Categories
target beh to be operationalised
: broken down into clear categories
: able to be replicated successfully
Behaviour Categories AO3
+ make collected data structured and objective
+ should be exclusive and not overlap
- must not require further interpretation
- ‘dustbin categories’ where different beh go
Event Sampling + AO3
type of sampling method
count how many times a target occurs
+ infrequent target beh
- too complex, observer could overlook important data
Time Sampling
type of sampling method
record beh in time frames
+ reduces observations made
- unrepresentive as the time sample won’t represent participant’s beh
