Observational design Flashcards
1
Q
Unstructured observation design
A
- write down anything they see
- produce accounts of behaviour that are rich in detail
2
Q
Structured observation design
A
- target behaviour clearly defined
- allows researcher to quantify their observations using a pre-determined list of behaviours and sampling methods
3
Q
Behavioural categories
A
when a target behaviour is broken up into components that are observable and measurable
4
Q
Sampling methods
A
- continuous recording - all instances of a target behaviour are recorded - unstructured observation
- event sampling
- time sampling
5
Q
Event sampling
A
a target behaviour or event is first established then the researcher records this event every time it occurs
6
Q
Time sampling
A
a target individual or group is first established then the researcher records their behaviour in a foxed time frame, e.g. every 60 seconds
