Q
What are the effects of Resistance Exercise (typically Anaerobic)?
A
- Results in muscle hypertrophy, which is an increase in muscle diameter
- Results in increased number of mitochondria (for cell enlargement) and myofilaments; increased glycogen stores and connective tissue
1
Q
What are 3 effects of Aerobic Exercise?
A
- Leads to increased number of muscle capillaries & mitochondria, increase myoglobin synthesis
- results in greater endurance, strength, and resistance to fatigue
- Possible convert to FG fibers into FO fibers (can change up to 50:50 ratio; the absolute ratio is likely genetically pre-determined)
2
Q
What is hyperplasia?
A
and increase in the number of cells
3
Q
Do skeletal muscles undergo hyperplasia?
A
No, skeletal muscles do not undergo hyperplasia (increase in the number of cells
