Objective Flashcards
The O in a SOAP note is an objective examination and it along with the subjective helps what?
Formulate the assessment and the plan
The objective is 3 things, what are they?
- Measurable
- Reliable
- Repeatable
The categories in your objective need to be:
- Easy to read
- Easy to find
- Organized
Categories are organized by what?
Types of tests and measures preformed
Will you use every category for every patient?
No
What are common categories to note?
- Observation (posture)
- Palpation
- ROM
- MMT
- Sensation
- Special Tests
- Gait
- Transfers
- Balance
You can increase the specificity of each category based on what?
Each individual patient
When it comes to categories what should you focus on?
- The needed categories
- Making it detailed and clear
What can your observation tell you?
- Posture
- Pain response
- Position of relief
- Legitimacy of injury
- Potential family support of lack thereof
What are examples of potential emergent situations you can observe?
- Level of damage to a structure (muscle, fracture, etc)
- Blood Pressure
- Diabetes
- Abuse
What can palpation tell you?
- Potential structure involved
- Level of irritability (normal or abnormal)
- Affect on function
- Other structures that may be involved
What are examples of potential emergent situations you can palpate?
- Level of damage to a structure (muscle, fracture, etc)
- Abnormal edema
- Abnormal bruising
- Referred pain (not reproduced orthopedically)
What can ROM and MMT tell you?
- Osteokinematics and Arthrokinematics
- Mobility limitations
- Strength levels
- Current function compared to previous level
What are potential emergent situations you can find through ROM and MMT?
- Danger to self or others (driving a car, work activity)
- Level of damage to structure (muscle, fracture, etc)
What can special tests tell you?
- Depends on who you ask (specificity and sensitivity)
- Potential structures involved
- Next steps (ex: MRI now or can it wit)
