BMI, lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, consider evaluation of secondary causes- TSH, cortisol, evaluation of complications of obesity- CXR, ECG, stress test.
PE of obesity
BP, BMI, measure waist circumference, skin exam, abdominal exam
drug therapy for obesity
catecholaminergic meds for short term use, orlistat- works in GI track to reduce fat absorption
metabolic syndrome dx
3 of the following: abdominal obesity (waist circum greater or equal to 102 cm in men, and 88 cm in women), Serum triglycerides over or equal to 150 mg/dL, serum HDL less than 40 in men, less than 50 in women, BP over or equal to 130/85, and FBG over or equal to 100 mg/dL
