Q

what did milgram conclude from his original experiment ?

A

under certain situations most people will obey orders that go against their conscience and will obey an unjust command

when people occupy a lower position in a dominance hierachy they become liable to lose feelings of empathy compassion and morality and are inclined towards blind obedience

it doesnt take an evil person to commit an evil act but pressure to obey and the situation may explain the holocaust

Q

what is the procedure of milgram?

A

Ps were told the aim of the study was into role of punishment on learn
Ps were told that there was a 50/50 chance of being learner or teacher but really a confederate played learner and actual p was the teacher

The teachers role was to shock the learner everytime they gave an incorrect answer - no shocks were actually given but the p believed that they were

The shocks started from 15v and increased by 15v increments upto 450v
if a p hesitated to administer the shock they were given prods from the experimenter to continue
