N farm limit
applies to total N from livestock manures only including those deposited by grazing animals. Limit of 170kg total N/ha averaged over the area of holding per calendar year
N farm limit derogation
Derogation to increase farm limit from 170kg N/ha annually to 250kg N/ha is available where more than 80% of holding is grass. Must apply to EA annually.
N field limit
Applies to TOTAL N from organic manures. limit of 250kg total N in any rolling 12 month period.
What sources are subject to N max (N crop limit)
N max applies to available N from all sources including crop available N. N max limits are averaged over the farm rather than individual hectares.
what N sources do closed periods apply to
Apply to manufactured fertilisers and organic manures with high RAN (readily available N) 30% of their total nitrogen content immediately available to crops. 30% or more of total N is ammonium, nitrate or uric acid forms). Depends on cropping and soil type.

rules for temporary storage of manures in field heaps
no field heaps within 30m of surface water (including ditches) if land slopes steeply (12 degrees or more) the field heap must occupy as small a surface area as practically possible
rules for situations where the only organic manure applied to a field is certified compost
up to 500kg N/ha every 2 years, apply compost on any land as mulch or work it into the soil. Up to 1000kg N/ha every 4 years as mulch (orchards only)
