Blood glucose-fasting
Normal 70-99 mg/dL
100-125 mg/dL pre diabetes
126 mg/dL or higher on two tests you have diabetes
Serum albumin
Normal - 3.4-4.8 g/dL
(Hypoalbuminemia)Lower can be an indication of malnutrition, liver disease or inflammatory disease
Higher can be an indication of acute infections, burns, stress from surgery or heart attack
Prealbumin
Normal- 12- 42 mg/dL (6yr and older)
High- sign of long term kidney disease, steroid use or alcoholism
Low-sign of liver disease, inflammation or tissue death
Transferrin
Normal: 170-370 mg/dL
Higher: may have a iron-deficiency
Lower: liver disease and hemolytic anemia
Also called total iron binding capacity test (TIBC)
Globulin
Normal: 2.3-3.4 g/dL
High: infection, inflammatory, immune disorder
Low: liver or kidney disease
Blood urea
Normal:
Children: 5-18 mg/dL
Age 14-adult: 8-21 mg/dL
Adult older than 90: 10-31 mg/dL
High: kidney aren’t working well, UTI
Low: over hydration, malnutrition, severe liver damage
Creatinine
Normal:
Female:0.5-1 mg/dL
Male: 0.6-1.2 mg/dL
High: impaired kidney function or kidney disease
Low: liver or muscles not working properly
Hemoglobin
Normal: Male: 13.2-17.3 g/dL Female: 11.7-15.5g/dL Male older adult: 12.6-17.4 g/dL Female older adult: 11.7-16.1 g/dL
High: lung and heart diseases
Low: anemia
