Nutritional Status is the current status of a person or population group, related to their state of nourishment ( consumption and utilisation of nutrients) .
What is the purpose of nutritional assessment ?
- To identify individuals or population groups at risk of becoming malnourished.

What are the 3 basic objectives when determining nutritional status?
- Dietary intake and pattern
- Physical growth characteristics or changes in growth patterns
- Signs of nutrient deficiency disease or illnesses associated with excess.

It is the measurement of body height, weight and proportions

Reference points are indicators used to determine the presence or absence of a condition .

Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI = Weight (kg) / Height (m2)
How is Malnutrition defined according to the Wellcome Classification?
This is a reference tool used for assessing undernourished children
suffering from protein-energy malnutrition. It uses a combination of
anthropometry and clinical signs associated with oedema

This measures the presence/absence of stunting and/or wasting .
