Why do they call them macronutrients?
They are called this because we need larger quantities then we need our micronutrients. Micronutrients are needed in much smaller quantities.
What are the three macronutrients that provide us calories?
- Carbohydrates
- Proteins
- Fat
What do all three of these macronutrients contribute to?
Our calories/energy.
How much energy do we need?
It depends on gender, activity level, chronic disease, height, weight, etc.
What is the main fuel source for the body?
Carbohydrates
What do our brain cells work off of?
Blood glucose that we get from consuming carbohydrate based foods.
What are the three main types of carbohydrates?
Sugar, starch, and fiber.
What are some examples of sugars?
White sugar, brown sugar, candy, and soda.
What are some examples of starches?
Potatoes, grains, and popcorn.
What are some examples of fibers?
Broccoli, asparagus, and lettuce.
